Introduction
It was just after 3 a.m. on a Friday when officers used emergency powers to seize a suspect’s iPhone, following intelligence of a potential threat in a domestic safeguarding case. Data was extracted using MSAB and passed to our digital forensics team for immediate review.
Among the extracted items were 34 voice messages — all in French. No one on the on-call team could understand them and a professional translator wasn’t available until after the weekend. But waiting wasn’t an option.
We suspected the messages contained actionable threats. We had hours, not days, to act.
