Riot in the Rain

160 clips. One city. No margin for error.

Introduction

It started as a peaceful march. By afternoon, things escalated. Officers were assaulted, bricks thrown, vehicles vandalised. Our team was handed over 160 CCTV files from static cameras, local businesses and body-worn video.

The ask: isolate key agitators, redact every bystander and prepare evidence footage that could stand up in court — and the media.
S21 CCTV didn’t just process footage, it helped us navigate a politically sensitive case with clarity and speed.
We dropped over 160 clips into S21 CCTV. Facial redaction began instantly, with no need for cloud upload.

Within minutes, every face was anonymised — except the ones we manually exempted. That let us focus on tagging suspects and mapping movement.

One individual, masked throughout, was spotted throwing bottles and igniting a council waste bin. Face grouping linked clips where the same figure appeared — even catching a fleeting mask-lift in a shopfront reflection.

Motion activity search helped us skip straight to the moments of action. Vehicle detection flagged a white hatchback that fled the area post-incident. ANPR matched the number plate to nearby traffic footage.

Everything stayed offline — from import to export.

From March to Match

We used facial redaction to protect bystanders and build public-ready exports. Facial grouping revealed the truth behind one masked suspect. Motion activity tools focused our time on what mattered.
What looked like a riot became a set of searchable facts.
Five suspects. Dozens of clips. Three arrests and counting. All within one working day.
“We’d used other tools before and every time it felt like we were forcing things to work. With S21 CCTV, it felt like the tool was built for this kind of job.”

What if we hadn’t acted?

What if we’d stuck with the old cloud-based tools? What if we’d waited days for footage to be batch-processed or uploaded?

The delays alone might’ve cost us the only clear moment we had.
S21 CCTV gave us what the others couldn’t: speed, certainty, and control.
Because of that, we responded in time — with evidence no one could argue with.
